Paper & Cardboard

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive recycling service which collects on average 50 tonnes of paper per month. Paper products such as copier paper, newspaper and magazines should be placed in re-usable woven polypropylene bags ready for collection. Cardboard can be bundled but smaller quantities can be bagged.

Once you have a sizeable amount of paper that you would like to recycle contact us and quote the reference ZZPAPER. We will then arrange collection ideally as a part of stationery delivery and issue you with a waste transfer note which you should retain for three years. Paper and cardboard collected by Wiles Greenworld is sent to UK based mills where it is recycled into items such as newspaper and cardboard boxes. We think this makes more sense than shipping it abroad for recycling.

Toner & Xyron cartridges

If you have toner or inkjet cartridges that you would like to recycle please contact Wiles Greenworld to book a collection. We can take all types of toner and inkjet cartridges. Please put them in the box that the new cartridge came in or in cardboard boxes. Working with our partners we look to close the loop by collecting cartridges from our customers, remanufacturing them and sending them back for reuse. For every 10 original cartridges we sell, we recycle over 8 and over £5000.00 was raised for charities in 2011 alone.

In 2011 Wiles Greenworld won the ERS toner cartridge recycler of the year award for the second year running.

Computers & Batteries

We have partnered with a Local IT recycling company to offer clients the opportunity to recycle their old computer equipment locally. We can collect everything from PC towers to monitors, printers and even projectors. Computer equipment intended for recycling should be accompanied by appropriate cabling.

All equipment collected by Wiles Greenworld is brought into Perivale where it is consolidated and prepared for collection by our recycling partner. Upon arrival at the recycling facility all equipment is data-wiped (we can offer a confirmation certificate within 48 for all clients that need assurance) and where possible refurbished. Equipment that cannot be refurbished is broken down for material and sold on. What cannot be sold is recycled in accordance with WEEE regulations. Items that have been refurbished are donated to needy causes in the London area and beyond. Please note this service is chargeable.

Battery recycling

Less than 2% of batteries in the UK are recycled and as hazardous waste they are particularly harmful to the environment. Please help us to reduce the amount of hazardous waste that goes to landfill by recycling your old batteries.

If you have old batteries please place them in a cardboard box and once you have a reasonable amount contact our customer service team to book a collection. If you require cardboard boxes we can supply them for you to use. Once you have requested a collection our team will email you a copy of our consignment note which you need to complete and return to us via email or fax. We will then book the collection which will usually take place between 3 – 5 working days.

After the batteries have been collected they are sorted and shredded. Lead batteries are separated and treated in a specialised recycler. Nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride and lithium ion batteries are treated by a separate process. Silver oxide button cells are also taken for special treatment.

The remaining zinc-chloride, zinc-air, alkaline and lithium button cells and other button cell batteries are recycled by the Oxyreducer process, which involves treating them at very high temperature in a rotating hearth furnace.

Button cell batteries containing mercury are usually recycled using a vacuum-thermal treatment, in which the mercury vaporises. The mercury condenses and eventually solidifies when temperatures are reduced and can then be re-used.

Plastic Bottles & Metal Cans

We have now combined plastic and metal into the same bag to make recycling even easier. You can place all your uncontaminated plastic and metal into the same bag for us to collect. Drinking and food containers should be rinsed to remove any contaminating material.

Wiles Greenworld has been recycling plastic and metal for over a decade and around half of our clients recycle with us. The plastic collected by Wiles Greenworld is used to make a number of commodities which includes stationery supplies while metal cans are recycled into new metal cans in around six weeks in the UK.

Compact Discs

Compact discs are made from many different materials; each has its own separate life cycle involving energy use and waste. The good news is that compact discs are fairly easily recycled by companies based in the UK. Wiles Greenworld has partnered with a major compact disc recycling company to offer clients the opportunity to turn their old discs into new products such as lenses.

All discs collected by Wiles Greenworld are sent over to Liverpool to be turned into frames and stationery with no waste going to landfill. Compact discs should be stored in a secure box for ease of transportation. We can also collect compact discs cases if required.

Mobile Phones

Recycling mobile phones is a great way to turn outdated technology into a resource that fuels current gadgets. Wiles Greenworld is one of few companies that will recycle mobile phones without specifying what mobiles phones we are willing to collect. This is because our intention is to help divert waste away from landfill and not profit from the service.

Mobile devices are made from a number of metals and plastics that can be extracted and used to make other products. Mobile phones and PDAs collected by Wiles Greenworld are recycled in accordance with WEEE regulations and the extracted resources are used to make other devices.

Other recycling services

The UK produces approximately 3.7 million tonnes of glass items which are mainly used to store food and drink products. Wiles Greenworld collects glass which is recycled in the UK to make aggregate for roads. To make the process easier we can supply customers with plastic boxes which store between 12 and 15 wine bottles. Once the box is full customers should contact us quoting the reference ZZGLASS. Please note this service is chargeable.

Fluorescent light tubes

Fluorescent light tubes, halogen and sodium lamps are classed as hazardous waste and therefore can’t be disposed of in landfill. Wiles Greenworld can collect your light tubes and recycle then in accordance with WEEE regulations. We ask customers wishing to make use of the service to place the old tubes inside the box of the new tubes and if necessary bubbles wrap them to avoid causing a breakage. Please contact us using ZZLIGHT as your reference. Please note this service is chargeable.

Food waste

We don’t currently offer the facilities for food recycling. However, we work with organisations that can collect your food waste. Please contact us on 0208 758 7700 if you need help finding a food recycling company.
