Water meters may become compulsory for all

Water meters may become compulsory for all households under government changes to the water charging system, which will be announced next month.

An Independent review has reported that the current charge on water is unfair and does not encourage reduced usage of water supplies. The government is taking a new approach in believing that metering is the fairest option, however the elderly and large families will be affected by this the most.

Moving to metering will affect many people, however procedures can be put into place to help minimise the usage of water where possible. For example, Wiles Greenworld has installed sensored taps which also have a timer on them to automatically switch off. Procedures such as this implemented by the London office supplies company shows that by being energy efficient costs can be saved.
