Richmond still in the running for Green Streets sustainability prize

London businesses in Richmond are being urged to take part in a competition alongside local residents to become Britain’s most eco-friendly community.

Richmond Council is the only London borough due to go to head-to-head in the latest stage of the competition – a year long challenge to determine who can do the most to cut energy use and achieve carbon reductions.

The winning community will receive a £100,000 prize to spend on an environmental project of their choice.

Community activist Ben Fogle is supporting the campaign and believes that these kinds of strategies are a good way to help Britain meet its tough carbon reduction targets.

He said: “There is a groundswell of communities wanting to learn how to save money and go green by developing plans around saving and generating energy locally.

“Green Streets taps into this demand, and will help create a blueprint for building a more sustainable future.”

The Green Streets campaign was launched by British Gas, which made £2 million available to invest in eco-friendly projects in participating communities.ADNFCR-2805-ID-19563578-ADNFCR
