Research project to support carbon reduction strategies

A £1 million collaborative research project has been agreed between the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change and the United Arab Emirates’ Masdar Institute.

The scheme will draw on domestic experience to develop, support and guide small businesses keen to deploy low carbon energy solutions.

This emphasis on deploying eco-friendly technologies is estimated by financiers Earth Capital Partners to have the potential to attract up to £2 billion in private sector investment.

Commenting on the launch of the new scheme, energy minister Ed Miliband said: “These two new collaborative projects are examples of exactly the type of global collaborative effort that we must encourage to tackle climate change problems.”

The announcement of the new research collaboration follows the launch of the second phase of the UK’s Carbon Offsetting Facility, which will offset emissions resulting from government air travel and other public sector CO2.ADNFCR-2805-ID-19565857-ADNFCR
