Mars to offer sustainable chocolate

Maltesers is set to become Mars’ first fair-trade brand as part of the company’s long term commitment to support the sustainable production of cocoa. Mars said that Maltesers will account for a 10% increase in total UK Fairtrade sales and will contribute £640000 a year to Fairtrade cocoa farmers for investing in their farms and local communities.

The decision to switch Maltesers to to Fairtrade is about sustainability and not designed to boost sales of the brand according to the company. The move follows similar action from it’s rivals such as Kraft Cadbury Dairy Milk and Nestle KitKat.
