Green Office News: Tesco to ditch plans on carbon footprint labelling

Tesco are to ditch plans to add carbon footprint labels to all products as they fear that the labels are far too complicated for the consumer, calculating CO2 emissions are time consuming and also they are not popular amongst other retailers. The purpose of these labels are to encourage consumers to buy products with a low environmental impact. Tesco has used the label on 500 of their products. On the other hand, PepsiCo, a company that currently uses carbon footprint labels on products including Walkers Crisps said despite the low take-up on these labels from other retailers they will still continue to use these labels on their products.
