Green Office News: Rhino horn poaching still a major threat in South Africa

The number of poachers in South Africa has dramatically risen since 2005 claims recent reports. From 1990 to 2005, 14 rhinos were poached every year, this increased to 333 in 2010, in  2011 448 rhinos were poached and so far this year 339 rhinos have been killed for their horn. It is assumed that most of the horns are being exported to Vietnam where there is a strong demand. The Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites) is calling for the Vietnamese government to take this issue seriously.
