Green news: Tesco achieves renewables certification

Tesco, the British food retailer has achieved accreditation for its installation of waste-to-energy systems at two stores.

Tesco has become the first retailer to produce biofuel certified under the government’s Renewables Obligation scheme and Ofgem has now allowed the store to issue Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) for the fuel.

“To receive such exclusive recognition by the government is a huge boost for our renewable energy programme,” commented Tesco’s head of environment for its property services team, Bukky Bird.

Wiles Greenworld London office supplies distributor that offers free recycling at work was pleased with Tesco’s progress which the environmental office supplies company hopes will encourage the other big supermarkets to follow suit.
