Combating London’s Air Quality

At Wiles Greenworld, we continually strive to reduce our carbon footprint. One system we have implemented which is particularly relevant when providing green office supplies to businesses across the Capital is our driver route mapping system. This aims to ensure drivers routes are as efficient as possible by starting at our Green Office in Perivale and finishing at their homes, without having to return to the office beforehand.

This is relevant because an area which we cover, Oxford Street, is now home to the world’s highest levels of the toxic compound nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which comes from diesel engines and can cause breathing problems and heart-related diseases. Scientists installed a monitoring station on the street and recorded an NO2 concentration of 135 micrograms (mcg) per cubic metre of air, which is more than four times the European Union’s safe limit of 40mcg and beats the levels of NO2 found in Asian cities. The high levels are likely to be caused by taxis and other vehicles that go up and down the street, which is one of London’s most popular venues for tourists.

Therefore our transport logistics system, coupled with offering a complimentary recycling collection service at the same time as delivering eco friendly office supplies, means that we have significantly reduced not only our carbon footprint and transport emissions but the impacts that our customers are having on the environment.

Green Office Tip: To reduce the environmental impact that you may be having, follow our green office news, purchase recycled office supplies and inquire about our free recycling service!
