Better carbon reduction plans ‘would create business opportunities’

Improving carbon reduction commitments has the potential to create new business opportunities in the capital and throughout the UK, it has been claimed.

Friends of the Earth economy campaigner Simon Bullock has indicated that the climate should not be left to chance and urged the government to redouble its efforts to improve sustainability schemes and other strategies.

He was responding to a report by the Environmental Audit Commission, which called on the government to strengthen policies to tackle climate change.

He said: “The committee is right to demand that the government sets tougher targets for tackling climate change.

“Developing a low carbon economy can also bring huge economic advantages too – slashing energy waste and developing the UK’s huge green energy potential will create new business opportunities and tens of thousands of new jobs.”

Further recommendations by the committee include ensuring that national policies on new fossil fuel infrastructure are compatible with carbon budgets.ADNFCR-2805-ID-19558124-ADNFCR
