Every business needs a sustainability champion

A recovering economy, rising energy costs and increased energy consumption are driving the need for a more environmentally conscious organisation. But who is the best qualified person to lead the change for a greener, more sustainable business?

A recent trend sweeping the business industry has been the introduction of sustainability roles. While a number of companies have enlarged the positions of many employees to include environmental duties many have yet to identify a person for their sustainability efforts.

Wiles Greenworld, London’s green office supplies distributor which has been running a free recycling service and offers green office management consultancy is in favour of sustainability champions. The company, known for its eco-efficiency and carbon reductions of 10% year on year appointed one of three Directors the responsibility of sustainable development. Since then, the company has achieved tremendous success by lowering emissions, increasing profits and gaining recognition through green schemes such as The Sunday Times for the third year running.
